Sellwood Bridge Movement Begins

Residents of Portland are interested in the move of the old Sellwood Bridge, one of many bridges that span the Willamette River.  Here is the link to what is going on.

The old bridge will be moved on to new pilings and will then be used while the new bridge is under construction for the next two years.  The old bridge will eventually be removed.  The major move begins today, so take a look and let all your friends know about this link.

Portfolio Performance: 18 January 2013

One month passed since I last posted the portfolio performance data table.  While every portfolio increased in value over the last month, in many cases the benchmarks increased at a faster rate than the portfolios IRR values.  When comparing performance with the ITA Index, the Curie, Newton, Kepler, and Kenilworth gained ground on the customized benchmark.  Maintaining the same difference were the Schrodinger and Einstein.  Those that lost ground were the Bohr, Maxwell, Euclid, Madison and Gauss.  The Gauss decline was a bit of a surprise as it is the single portfolio that actually picked up ground on the VTSMX benchmark.  All the other portfolio slowed in growth compared to the strong VTSMX (U.S. Equities market) index fund.

Despite losing some ground to the benchmarks, in most cases the risk (SR and RR) was lowered for the majority of portfolios.  As we move forward it will be interesting to watch performance as I am altering the Strategic Asset Allocation plan for a few portfolios.

Clarification:  IR is the Information Ratio, SR = Sortino Ratio, and RR is the Retirement Ratio.  All these portfolios are now tracked by the TLH Spreadsheet, an Excel™ spreadsheet that is available to interested readers.   Video and audio instructions are available to Platinum members.  IRR is Internal Rate of Return.
