Which ETFs To Use When Constructing A New Portfolio

Which ETFs do I recommend for different asset classes when putting together that first portfolio?  The first move is to decide which asset classes to use.  Twenty-five months ago I posted this Asset Allocation blog and little has changed over that time.  One error in the table is the position of VEA.  That ETF should be included in the Developed International Equities box rather than the Emerging … [Read More...]

Bullish Percent Indicators: 9 November 2012

Friday, November 9th, was a flat market, but the direction over the course of the week was down and that is reflected in many of the indexes and sectors.  Our most important index changed direction and handed the ball over to the defense.  Other BPI values moved out of the overbought zone.  Check the details below. Index BPIs:  The NYSE and Dow Jones Transportation were the last holdouts.  Both … [Read More...]

Optimizing Dividend Stocks

Here is my optimization analysis on a 12-Dividend portfolio made up of individual stocks.  It might be interesting to look at a portfolio made up of 20 to 30 individual stocks. I like the 9.0 projected return and the high Return/Risk ratio.  A yield of 2.7% is also quite respectable. Do these results match others who are using this optimizer in conjunction with the QPP software? … [Read More...]

Portfolio Performances Updated All but one portfolio showed improvement vs. the VTSMX index.  Improvements were also evident for the Sortino and Retirement ratios.  Our asset allocation plans were working in full force this past week, a positive signal. Only the newest portfolio, the Franklin, lost ground and it is much too early to draw any conclusions.  As mentioned before, we … [Read More...]

Strictly International: What Is The Delta Factor Projecting?

Several weeks passed since I last updated the "Delta Factor" projections for international ETFs.  In addition to the usual Delta Factor projections, I also ran an optimization of these ETFs to see where the QPP indicates best buys.  First, the Delta Factor projections. … [Read More...]

Bullish Percent Index: Indicators for 24 May 2013

The following Bullish Percent Index (BPI) information is slightly mixed, but overall, the markets remain strong.  Only in one sector, Utilities, was the defensive team able to secure the ball from the offense.  Platinum members will find the following tables of interest.  Remember that our most important BPI is the NYSE and that BPI value improved slightly over the last week. BPI Markets:  All … [Read More...]
