Risk-Parity: A Brief Explanation of How Risky a 60/40 Portfolio Really Is

While I have a sample Risk-Parity portfolio coming out early tomorrow morning, I want to rush out a brief description of how risk is calculated.  This not for the mathematically squeamish, but the concept is not difficult if one can get past one step in the logic.  Don't be surprised if this concept does not alter how portfolios are put together here at ITA Wealth Management.  … [Read More...]

Kenilworth Portfolio Update: 24 October 2012

The one change I made since posting the following screen shots was to sell shares of DBC, the commodities holding.  The current price of DBC is below its 195-Day EMA and since this is one of the ITA Risk Reduction (ITARR) model portfolios, a sell was necessary.  I held 25 shares of DBC and I sold 20 shares.  The remaining 5 shares were left in the portfolio so I will have an ongoing calculation … [Read More...]

Optimization-Momentum and QPP Analysis of Schrodinger: Part 1

Even though it is not time to update the Schrodinger, I am using it this Memorial Day (was called Decoration Day when I was a kid) to illustrate the OM Model.  Let me state immediately that I don't have a clue what the QPP analysis will project when the assets are optimized.  Wait and see what comes out of this analysis. Pay Attention to Your Portfolio: Sample Portfolio Included

Whether you are a beginning or experienced investor, it is important to review and update your portfolio annually if not monthly.  ITA portfolios are reviewed and updated every 33 days.  The updating difficulty is highly dependent on what securities are used to populate the portfolio.  If individual stocks are used the task is more onerous as each stock needs to be reviewed in detail.  Further, … [Read More...]

Delta Factor for Basic ETFs

After the recent market push in the upward direction, what does the "Delta Factor" look like for a few basic ETFs one is likely to hold in a portfolio?  When I ran the numbers I was a little surprised at the positive results.  Check out the screen shot below. … [Read More...]

Bullish Percent Indicators Take Hit

As projected for a number of weeks, the market finally took a breather and retraced this past week.  The evidence is clear when one examines the index and sector tables. Index BPIs:  We find every index below the 70% line or what we think of as an overbought condition.  While we are not rooting for the market to decline, we are well aware that it cannot maintain those lofty heights for an … [Read More...]
